District 1 (Vietnamese: Quận 1) is an urban district (quận) of Ho Chi Minh City, the largest city in Vietnam. As of 2009 the district had a population of 178,878.[1] The district covers an area of 8 km².[1]

District 1 is the financial, commercial, and administrative center of Ho Chi Minh City. The city seat and many consulates general are located here. This district was planned by French architects in French Indochina period.

The Saigon Notre-Dame Basilica, the Saigon Opera House, the Central Post Office, the City Hall, Pham Ngu Lao street, the former Republic of Vietnam President’s Reunification Palace, Rex Hotel. Most of the city's 5-star hotels and many expensive restaurants are located here.
